Week of October 9-14

REFERENCE

Reference has relocated to the Quiet Zone, including 1890 phone line, fax machine and copier/printer. Both phones at the Quiet Zone desk currently have the 1890 and 1715 extensions. Use 1890 for Reference questions and 1715 for Fiction, periodical, and other non-reference needs. The only Reference books on the first floor are the Reference Biographies and 2 sets of the encyclopedias (World Book is upstairs). These items will be relocated to the 2nd floor after additional shelving is installed up there.

COLLECTION RELOCATIONS

Foreign Language: The Spanish Language collection has been moved to shelving just outside the lab where the Test Books were formerly located. The other foreign language collections follow immediately after the Spanish collection.

Biographies: Biographies have been moved to the area immediately following the Foreign Language collections in the area formerly used by the Reference collection.

000's & 100's: The 000's have moved to the Quiet Zone and are shelved after the Reference collection. The 100's are in the process of being moved as well, although most are still on the first floor at this point.

CLOSED STACKS

Second Tier collections that have been relocated to the basement now include Reference, Biographies, 000's, 100's, 200's, 600's, 700's, 800's, and 900's. These have yellow-taped spines. When yellow-taped items are checked out and returned, they are re-shelved in the basement. Circulation will set these items aside, and they will be checked to make sure that they have the "Closed Stacks" designation.

SHELVING

Shelving bound for installation on the second floor has been cleared. While some of the frames remain, the actual shelves and hardware have been moved in preparation for installation into the former Local History Room (and future Fiction zone).

SENIOR ALCOVE

The Senior Alcove in the Quiet Zone has been discontinued during the renovation period. Additional tables and chairs are now in that area for quiet study patrons.

REMINDERS

  • The media collections, both juvenile and adult, are all located in the same area.
  • The Adult magazine back issues not shelved beneath the binders of the new issues must be retrieved from the basement. Holdings have changed and the listings are being updated.
  • Young Adult back issues are also in need of retrieval from the basement.
Week of October 16-21

RELOCATIONS PROJECTED

  • The Second Tier, yellow-taped materials in the 400 and 500 Dewey areas will be moved to the basement after their status has been changed to "Closed Stacks."
  • Microfilm cabinets will be relocated to the former Literacy Office. The reader/printers will be relocated there as soon as possible thereafter. This will allow additional shelving to be added in the Quiet Zone.
  • The 100's and 200's will be moved to the Quiet Zone.
