BULLETIN

THE 2nd Floor Work Begins

The windows on the second floor will soon be created, with demolition of the block walls probably starting on Tuesday. Today, Monday, the demolition team will be creating their second floor work space by installing temporary walls between the demo zone and the public area. This will also involve the protection of the carpet.

Please begin to message the second floor patrons that there will be a noise element until the middle of the afternoon for awhile. Remind them that Haskett can provide them a quiet morning space, and that the other branches can as well during their open hours.

IN PROCESS

More of the same – ceilings, electrical, conduit. The new bathrooms will be tiled.

THE BIG LOUD WORK

Obviously, this was delayed because you can still hear each other. The demolition glitches should be settled and the walls literally will be coming off the corner later this week – either Thursday or Friday. Administration will be looking at alternate “quiet” space in the basement during this phase. Individual update emails will be sent out as information is received from ACI. Again, if you need accommodation to your schedule or workplace during this phase, please notify your supervisor.

THE EXTERIOR

Drawings of the proposed exterior, including recommendations for colors, will be presented next week to staff, the Library Board and the community. When I receive copies of the drawings, I will post them in the conference room and invite staff to “check it out.” The library hopes to go out to bid to begin the renovation of our entrance, the upgrade of the exterior and the redesign of the landscaping by the end of June.

FIRST Week of MAY

IN PROCESS

The next project in the interior space is to run conduit before the new T-bar and stucco ceilings and light fixtures are installed. Work begins on the theming elements for the new space. A giraffe is being built as well as a lion, rhino, etc. Electric floor boxes will be installed and conduit will be run below the basement ceiling. If there are still items below the work area, check with Rick for tarps to protect. This work should generate the same noise level as previous work.

THE NEXT BIG LOUD THING

Apparently, “we ain’t heard nothing yet”. The removal of the concrete blocks on the corner of the 1st and 2nd floors may literally shake our building. Although it is the library’s intent to maintain access to the 2nd floor, it will NOT qualify in any way as a quiet place during the days that exterior walls are demolished. More details will be shared when a schedule is confirmed for this work. This is just a heads up that noise and dust will be at a very high level and if you need accommodation to your schedule or workplace, please notify your supervisor.

THE CHILLER

Facility Maintenance informed the project group that they are working on a bid to install the new chiller. This piece of equipment will be installed outside on the concrete pad where the other HVAC equipment sits. Part of the job will be to level the concrete which apparently has a 6 inch slope. The goal is to have the new chiller in place before summer heat arrives. The new Children’s space will have its own heat/air conditioning and ventilation system.

FLAT TIRES

Several staff have had flat tires from nails in the parking lot. In order to minimize this danger, please report if this happens, including marking the spot you parked when you noticed the damage on the layout of the parking lot (Rick has this). Trying to determine if there is just a small area that may need to be swept daily or if this is throughout the lot.
