COLLECTION RELOCATIONS
The adult nonfiction collection will continue to gradually move upstairs. Nonfiction through the 600's should be completely moved by the end of the week, with the 700's beginning their big move upstairs.
Some of shelving upstairs was moved to accommodate the windows planned for the second floor. Once there have been carpet repairs made, the 800's and 900's will make their way upstairs.
COMPUTER CLASS RELOCATION IN FEBRUARY
The computer classes will be relocated to the Haskett Branch Library starting in February due to the renovation project. Signups for February will be handled as they are currently, with staff at Haskett and other branches contacting Central for English-language signups and everyone still contacting Ymelda Ventura (Anaheim History Room) for Spanish-language signups. This process will be revised beginning with the March classes, with details to come at a later date. Because of the change, it will be very important for everyone to make certain that anyone signing up is made fully aware of the new class location.
RENOVATION ACTIVITIES
Staff might have noticed a large group of people moving about the library on Wednesday, January 9th. They were contractors that are interested in bidding on the renovation job, and they were being shown the areas that they would need to address if they were to win the bid. The jobwalk also gave them the opportunity to ask questions. Construction bids will be due next week, with the work on Central's new look starting possibly next month (at the earliest) by the winning contractor.
When the renovation does begin, there will be a portion of the parking lot that will be blocked off for use by the contractors. Further information will be forthcoming closer to that time. Any other actions that might impact staff and patrons will be announced as soon as they become known so that any adjustments that need to be made can be addressed.
REMINDERS
The media collections, both juvenile and adult, are all located in the same area.
The Adult magazine back issues not shelved beneath the binders of the new issues must be retrieved from the basement. Holdings have changed and the listings are being updated.
Young Adult back issues are also in need of retrieval from the basement.
The microfilm has all been relocated to the former Literacy office along with a copy machine.
Signage is being created to help patrons find materials and understand the changes going on. If you feel a specific sign might be helpful to patrons, please contact Rick in Adult Services.
Remember to try to help a patron at point of first contact if appropriate. Use the card catalog and walk to the downstairs shelves before sending patrons upstairs unless you know for certain that they need to have assistance in the Quiet Zone. Remember that good customer service is a Library priority.
